Braised Lamb Shawarma

Image
Don't let the length of the recipe daunt you!  It was less of a process than it appears, and even if it was difficult, it was pretty much worth it.  If I were to make any criticism of it at all was that the reduced braising liquid was still pretty runny and the sandwich was a huge dripping mess.  Correction a huge, dripping, tasty mess.  My husband wanted something crunchy in the sandwich, but that didn't stop him from having 2 ;).  We all agreed it was a solid 4 stars.  The only possibly difficult ingredient to procure is the pomegranate molasses.  If you can't find it locally, you can get it on line but I made my own.   I had made it for a Lebanese fried fish  ages ago, and finished it off tonight in this Shawarma.  The tahini sauce was wonderful and I am looking forward to having it on my sandwich at lunch tomorrow. Tomato, Basil, And Cheddar Soup

This recipe is from the blog More Fruit Please .  I have no problem copying recipe from big food sites like F&W or the Food Network. They get plenty of traffic and if you google the recipe there's is usually the first link or two that shows up.   I give a link to the original when I know it, I don't want to do that to my fellow bloggers.  I think I first saw this on pintrest (or it could have been food buzz).  I gave you a list of  the ingredients so you will know what is in it and to give you an idea of what it's like, but for the recipe and amounts, you will need to click the link to the blog I got the recipe from.  I enjoyed this.  The boy ate two bowls.  (He really loved it!) My daughter like it too.  The husband was working.  It was quick and easy to make too. (bonus!)  It isn't a favorite, but that's just me.  I, personally, thought the yogurt and tomatoes together were a bit too... tangy for lack of...

Chicken Balti & Spinach Raita

Image
The horror! The raita;) Well I was having a friend over and she loves Indian food.  I wanted her to try a recipe I made on February 2nd ( http://ormonddinners.blogspot.com/2012/02/best-ever-chicken-balti.html ) because it was one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten.  But, as I want a new recipe every day, I went looking for a side dish to try.  I had plenty of Greek yogurt to use, so I decided on the spinach raita.  That was a mistake.  No one liked it at all.  I couldn't believe how much it disappointed considering that it was chuck full of spinach and garlic.  The only deviation I made was with the dried red chilli; I used red pepper flakes.  In addition we had some samosas and chickpea fritters and rice.  Anyone out there know why the raita was such a epic fail?  Got a better recipe?  Please let me know:).
